Father Mark Hackett was born in Bournemouth, England in 1936. He is the youngest of three children, all boys, who all became Jesuit priests. He came out to this country in 1959. In addition to his church degrees in philosophy and theology, he has a BA from Rhodes University in South Africa and a Diploma in Adult Education from our local university. He learned Shona in Musana and Chiweshe where he stayed in the villages while trying to learn the local language and culture. He has worked at St. Paul's Mission, Musami, where in addition to pastoral work, he taught in the Secondary school, was Mission superior and Principal of the Teacher Training College. He survived the massacre at Musami in 1977 as he was away on leave. He has also worked at St. Ignatius College as a teacher and at Makumbi Mission as pastor, mission superior and teacher. He became headmaster and rector of St. George's College in 1990 where he stayed for seven years. After short spells at Mbare, Makumbi and Musami, he came to Mount Pleasant in 2001.

Fr Paul Edwards was born in the UK, grew up in the London suburb of Putney and joined the Jesuits in 1959 on the completion of his education at one of their London schools, Wimbledon College. He came to Zimbabwe in 1964, and the following March became a member of the Our Lady of the Wayside parish for the first time as a student at the then UCR, studying for a BA in English and living at the Mount Pleasant Jesuit residence, Prestage House.
After graduating, he was appointed to the St George's community, and served the college for five terms. In 1969 he went back to the UK for Theology, and completed his London BD at Heythrop College in 1973, the year in which he was also ordained a priest at the Sacred Heart Church in Wimbledon.
On his return to Zimbabwe in September 1973, he returned also to St George's, remaining there, except for his tertianship year, until the end of 1981. In 1982 it was back to the parish for eight years (and in 1983, to Prestage House) as Catholic Chaplain at the University. !990 saw him transferred to St Ignatius College, Chishawasha, where he was first Headmaster for two years and then Rector for four. At the beginning of 1997 he was appointed for the third time to St George's, this time as Rector, a position he held for ten years. This was followed by his third time posting to a house in the Our Lady of the Wayside parish and his current appointment as assistant to the Parish Priest.
